Tiptoe Through the Tulips

This picture story was submitted by Maria Matusik from TorontoOntario.

May is the month in which spring is in full swing and nature comes to life! Tulips are one of the first flowers blooming in May and I would love to share some tulip photos from my flower collection. These photos were all taken while walking in Toronto’s High Park.

Tulips are a part of the Lily family. They originate from the Turkey, where they grow in the wild. Tulips were brought to Netherlands via Great Britain in the late 1500’s. They are one of the iconic symbols of Netherland which is the largest producer of tulips bulbs and flowers.

Tulips are the most colourful of all spring flowers and they are among the most popular of all garden flowers.

Tulips are not only beautiful in the garden, but some people eat the petals as well. Adding their petals can brighten up salads.

I even like tulips when the colours and petals start to fade. They still look beautiful to me.
