Once upon a time, I studied medieval history so when the opportunity came up to visit a medieval French town, I cleared my schedule to make space for it.

Yvoire is a tiny village that sits on the French shore of Lake Geneva (Lac Léman) almost directly across the lake from the Swiss town of Nyon.

The streets all seem to be uphill but it was a gorgeous, satisfying place to spend an afternoon exploring.

My €4 two-hour paddlewheel boat ride back across the lake was the cherry on top of a fine, fine day.
