Fort Myers Beach Before The Storm

On September 28th 2022 Hurricane Ian thundered onto shore in Fort Myers Beach. The category 4 storm was determined to be the fifth strongest storm to ever strike the United States.

While Ian left widespread damage in its wake Fort Myers Beach was left barely recognizable. Hit with a 10–15-foot storm surge coupled with sustained winds of 150mph reports indicated that 97% of the buildings there were destroyed or damaged. Preliminary estimates suggested $50 to $65 billion in property and infrastructure losses.

Our hearts are with the people and business-owners in Fort Myers Beach as they slowly rebuild and reopen their piece of this beloved beach town on Florida’s west coast. It is with them in mind that I share these photos taken #BeforeTheStorm
