Akumal Beach & Cenotes Casa Tortuga

Returning again to our stay in the beautiful Riviera Maya region of Mexico for my nephew’s wedding, I am happy to share more photos from the second part of our trip that was organized by the wedding couple.

After visiting the Mayan Ruins, our next stop was Akumal Beach, the main beach in the small beachfront tourist community of Akumal. It is located about 100 km (62mi) south of Cancun, between the towns of Playa del Carmen and Tulum on the region of Riviera Maya.

Akumal is also called “The Place Of Turtles” and part of our group went snorkelling with the turtles. While that group was snorkelling the rest of us walked on the beautiful white sandy beach and admired the palm trees and the crystal-clear turquoise water.

On our walk we stopped at a restaurant and a souvenir shop.

While walking further, I became interested in a particular tree, but what interested me even more was the fruit of this tree. I took a photo and asked our driver about the name of this fruit and he replied that it was a noni fruit and that the tree was called a noni tree.

The last stop of this trip was Cenotes Casa Tortuga Tulum. Cenotes are caves or sinkholes filled with crystal-clear water. This is a Cenote Natural Park on the Riviera Maya region and it offers adventure activities, experiences and unforgettable moments for visitors.

While part of our tour group went swimming in the cenotes and then went ziplining, we went to visit a forest park, in keeping with a natural form. While walking, we saw a lot of cenotes. One of them had a restaurant and it looked interesting. We also saw some of the beautiful forest sculptures. The sculpture in the photo below is one of my favourites.

It was a beautiful, interesting one-day trip which will always remain in my memory. This place is a truly beautiful one to spend a vacation. I love this beautiful region of the Riviera Maya.
